While talking to another motorcycle rider that was heading back to Dowagiac, MI, I couldn't remember what day of the week it was. I guess that it is a good sign.
After a monotonous 100 miles through South Dakota, I made it to Wall Drug for breakfast. I couldn't believe how touristy it was. I then headed through the Badlands National Park. Every time I thought the scenery couldn't get any better, something more impressive was around the next turn.
I then headed up to Mt. Rushmore. It was impressive, but not as much as I had imagined. I finally went to the Crazy Horse monument. Given that it is a private endeavor, it and the future plans for the monument seemed more impressive than Mt. Rushmore.
Even though it is at least a week after the Sturgis motorcycle rally, there are still tons of Harley riders around.
Tonight I am camping out in Custer, SD. I am still trying to figure out how far to go tomorrow. I don't think there are a lot of sites between here and Jackson, so I may just try to make it a big mileage day.
I hope everyone is doing well.

tell me you got a wall drug sticker for your bike! i am glad that you received the gift of impressive scenery after those first 100 miles today.
count on bushy to put his face up there before 2008.
h and i are doing well. mikey and sue are so kind - they were having dinner at the spoke and asked me out. i joined them for a stella (or two). now it's time to pay attention to queen bee. she is so fickle with me.
my theme for your six-week trip: WWASGD? (i.e., what would a single girl do?) when i asked honey that tonight, she said, "call him and tell him to come home." whatever.
happy riding. we miss you and love you. it's hitting me now how long you will be gone ...
much love,

Hi Pete,
Glad to hear you are soaking up those wide open spaces for the rest of us who are enjoying your trip vicariously. If you see any rain, stay out of it, but point it in our direction!

Pete, I finally got around to these parts of the Web. I am nearly overcome with jealously. I checked your tentative route and noticed there was no eastern spaces planned. If there were I would have suggested a quick stop through Yorktown, WIlliamsburg and Gettysburg. But, short of that, try to spend some time at Muir Woods, on the northern side of San Fran.
Alex, yes, I am shaking my head at your second comment. As for WWASGD, Jen and I can take up some of that time. LEt's pencil something in.
no sticker, but i have picture of my bike in front of the wall drug sign. is that good enough?
